CGT Catapult partners with CATTI to develop manufacturing training standards for advanced therapies
CGT Catapult and CATTI have collaborated to develop training standards for advanced therapy manufacturing
Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult (CGT Catapult) and the Canadian Advanced Therapies Training Institute (CATTI) recently announced a collaborative strategy to streamline training standards and assessment in the advanced therapies manufacturing industry. The strategy sets the foundation for creating common standards that will assist the advanced therapies manufacturing industry in accessing a highly skilled workforce, as stated in a press release.
Advanced therapies are produced by highly skilled professionals who have received GMP certification and are experienced in working in sterile environments. The current training and assessment methods for these personnel differ worldwide, creating challenges for workforce mobility and hindering the industry's ability to tap into global talent.
This partnership is an important milestone in our efforts to ensure that our workforce is well-prepared to meet the demands of the industry with the utmost expertise. In the press release, Vanessa Laflamme, CEO of CATTI, expressed the goal of improving the quality and safety of advanced therapies to benefit patients globally by establishing international standards.
CATTI and the CGT Catapult established a partnership in 2023 to enhance the standardization of training and assessment standards in Canada and the United Kingdom. Since then, the organizations have worked together to develop training materials and programs and have created a joint strategy that outlines the specific skills and competencies to be assessed. The objective is to create a structured framework that can be used for all manufacturing training materials, regardless of the level of expertise required.
Through collaboration with CATTI, a prominent training provider in the advanced therapies industry, we can improve and establish a more consistent training experience for both organizations and individuals. This builds on the previous work of the CGT Catapult and the investment made, in collaboration with the government, to create an effective training program for the UK workforce. We strive to guarantee that our expanding global sector is backed by a highly proficient workforce equipped with the most up-to-date knowledge and skills," stated Matthew Durdy, CEO of CGT Catapult in the press release.
In December 2023, CATTI formed a partnership with bioMérieux Canada to strengthen workforce training in advanced therapies and improve the production of quality control solutions for the bio/pharmaceutical industry. As part of this agreement, bioMérieux will be providing over half a million dollars' worth of analytical equipment and services to the CATTI training laboratory at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. This collaboration will provide comprehensive training to highly skilled personnel who are certified in GMP and capable of working in aseptic conditions. The training will focus on equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to manufacture various biotherapeutic applications, including anticancer immunotherapies, cell and gene therapies, and vaccines.
