Sartorius Releases Next-Generation TFF Cassette to Simplify Laboratory Processes

The new Vivaflow SU tangential flow filtration cassette also provides improved ultrafiltration and diafiltration efficiency

Sartorius has launched its Vivaflow SU tangential flow filtration (TFF) cassette on September 9, 2024. The new TFF cassette is made for straightforward use and adaptability in the lab, providing more efficient and sustainable ultrafiltration and diafiltration processes for feed volumes ranging from 100 mL to 1000 mL.

A company press release states that the new all-in-one cassette simplifies processes, cuts costs, and makes workflows for molecule isolation more efficient and sustainable. Every cassette comes prepped for use and includes a standard laboratory pump, making the setup straightforward. The straightforward setup eliminates the requirement for costly systems and complex process optimization, enabling quicker and more dependable concentration and rebuffering of any molecule. The cassette removes the need for cleaning, lowers the risk of contamination, and cuts down on waste, as stated in the press release.

“Vivaflow SU reflects our commitment to making progress easier,” stated John Cashman, product manager for Lab Ultrafiltration at Sartorius, in the press release. “It enhances the user-friendly aspects that our customers appreciate about TFF with Vivaflow, improving handling and performance while minimizing waste.” Our new cassette removes the hassle of calculating feed flow rate, TMP, and permeate flux, while also providing remarkable sustainability benefits for a single-use product.

The new cassette boasts sustainability features, including a housing that reduces plastic use by 30.5%. The design includes eco-friendly improvements like using locally sourced materials, custom tubing kits for each cassette setup, a digital user manual, and less non-recyclable packaging. According to the company’s press release, these elements help reduce the research footprint.

Vivaflow SU is the new TFF cassette that takes the place of the earlier Vivaflow 50. This is designed for research scientists who need a quick and dependable way to concentrate and rebuffer large feed volumes in molecule isolation processes.

Vivaflow SU has been launched shortly after Sartorius introduced the Arium Mini Extend water purification system for laboratories in June 2024. The Arium Mini Extend is the latest addition to the Arium Mini family. The new purification system is made to fulfill the Type 1 water needs of labs for general, life-science, and analytical uses, as stated by the company in a press release. The new system is small and provides very clean water purification with ease and adaptability.

The new system includes a handy, comfortable handheld dispenser, an easy-to-use digital display, and the Arium Bagtank technology to greatly improve laboratory workflows. The dispensing unit has its own volume control feature and increases the access area for ultrapure water. The new system makes water purification easier, particularly for processes that need to be done multiple times. Meanwhile, operation and maintenance have been streamlined with user-friendly menus and a 5-L Bagtank for storing purified water. The company mentioned in its press release that these features help with cleaning tasks and keep laboratory workflows running smoothly.
